Dr. Marc J. Shapiro M.D. is Professor of Surgery & Anesthesiology at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and past Chief of the Division of General Surgery, Trauma, Critical Care & Burns at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Shapiro attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, completed a surgical residency program at Henry Ford Hospital and received postgraduate training in Critical Care Medicine at the University Health Center of Pittsburgh. Dr. Shapiro is board certified in the areas of Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Shapiro is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. He continuously is listed in Whose who in America and in Best Docs, He is a NYPD Police Surgeon and a member of the White House Medical Unit. He, has published the Oxford Textbook of Critical Care Medicine which is the most widely read critical care text in the world, has authored over 100 articles and book chapters. He currently is Assistant Chief Medical Quality Officer for the University Medical Center.
